On July 21st, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and Donghua University signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation at the United Nations Headquarters, the Vienna International Center. Both sides have taken a solid step forward in global sustainable textile and garment industry cooperation.
Gunther Berger, Executive Director of the Innovation and Economic Transformation Division of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization's Sustainable Development Goals, and Xiang Yanxun, President of Donghua University, attended on behalf of their respective sides.
In his speech, Begel pointed out that the signing of this memorandum is a manifestation of the shared vision of both sides. Through joint efforts in innovative research, training and capacity building projects in the textile and garment fields, exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage and global academic forums, the two sides will leverage their innovative, academic and industrial experiences to promote technology transfer, talent cultivation and the construction of a green industrial ecosystem. Promote the sustainable development of China's textile and garment industry.
Xiang Yanxun stated that Donghua University is willing to take this cooperation as an opportunity to deepen strategic collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and work together under the framework of South-South cooperation to promote green technology, cultural inheritance and human resource development, making contributions to the win-win situation of the global textile and garment industry and environmental sustainability.
This cooperation focuses on the textile and garment industry sector and will cover multiple directions including technology research and development, green innovation, capacity building, talent exchange, global forum organization, and the protection of textile intangible cultural heritage. The memorandum also proposes to jointly explore the establishment of the "UNIDO - Donghua University Joint College of Green and Sustainable Textiles" to create an outstanding research and engineering education platform facing the world. The cooperation between the two sides not only deepens the educational and technological cooperation between China and the United Nations system, but also provides strong support for achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially the ninth goal of "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure". In the future, Donghua University and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization will take this Memorandum of Understanding as a starting point to promote the implementation of more globally influential projects and contribute to the green, intelligent and high-end development of the textile industry.
